June 22, 2016 was an historical day in the life of Polonia
in the United States and the life of the “heart of American
Polonia”— the Orchard Lake Schools. On that day, Polonia
gathered in the Chapel of Our Lady of Orchard Lake to
give thanks to God as we celebrated the 1,050th anniversary of the Baptism of Poland.
The Most Reverend Thomas Wenski, Archbishop of Miami, was the main celebrant
and homilist in English; The Most Reverend Witold Mroziewski, Auxiliary Bishop of
Brooklyn, was the homilist in Polish.
At the end of the liturgy, His Eminence Adam Cardinal Maida, Archbishop Emeritus of
Detroit, blessed and dedicated the Shrine of St. John Paul II in the Chapel. The Shrine
was built to house the first class relic of St. John Paul II which was a gift to the Orchard
Lake Schools from His Eminence Stanisław Cardinal Dziwisz, Archbishop of Kraków
and long time secretary to St. John Paul II. After Cardinal Maida’s blessing, The Most
Reverend Allen H. Vigneron, Archbishop of Detroit, read a decree stating that from this day forward we were to be
the Archdiocesan Shrine of St. John Paul II. This is indeed a great honor and grace for the Orchard Lake Schools.
It is the hope and desire of Archbishop Vigneron and all of us at Orchard Lake that the Shrine will be a place of
pilgrimage. Parishes, organizations and individuals will be able to come here and spend time in prayer seeking
the intercession of St. John Paul II. Please consider making a pilgrimage to our Shrine of St. John Paul II. He loved
Orchard Lake and once said:
“Fill Orchard Lake! Fill it to capacity! We need Orchard Lake!
He also stated:
the Orchard Lake Schools did not exist, it would be necessary to establish them.”
Now, from his place in heaven let us ask his intercession. St. John Paul II, pray for us!
